Terms of use

Last updated · 17 July 2026

These terms govern your use of OpenRides and the rental of any vehicle through our platform. By booking with us, you agree to them.

1. About these terms

Welcome to OpenRides.in. This website is owned, operated and managed by Unicom Infosol ("the Company", "we", "us" or "our"). OpenRides is the platform we operate. By accessing or using our platform, you agree to comply with and be bound by these terms, which form a binding agreement between you ("you", "the rider") and the Company. They apply alongside the rental agreement you sign at handover; where the two differ, the signed rental agreement controls for that booking.

2. Scope of service

The Company provides an online vehicle booking platform connecting users with local independent vehicle owners and dealers. All commercial transactions, digital payment collection, tax compliance and consumer invoicing are processed and executed directly by Unicom Infosol. The vehicle itself is supplied by the local partner shown on your rental agreement.

3. Who can rent

To book and ride a vehicle through OpenRides, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old (21 for higher-capacity motorcycles, where stated on the listing);
  • hold a valid driving licence that covers the class of vehicle you are renting, accepted for use in India;
  • carry the original licence and a government photo ID, and present them at handover and at any checkpost; and
  • complete any identity (KYC) verification we ask for, including a one-time mobile verification.

We may decline or cancel a booking if we cannot verify your identity or eligibility.

4. Bookings and confirmation

A booking is confirmed only after we accept it and the required payment is received. The specific registration number of your vehicle is allocated from our pool and is typically shared up to 12 hours before pickup. Availability is shown in real time but can change until your booking is confirmed.

5. Pricing, payments and taxes

All prices are in Indian Rupees (₹) and are inclusive of applicable taxes unless stated otherwise. Online payments are processed by our payment partner, Razorpay; we do not store your full card or bank details. Your booking total may include the daily rental, a one-way fee where applicable, optional delivery, and a refundable security deposit.

6. Security deposit

A refundable security deposit is collected with your booking — you can pay it Pay at pickup. It is returned in full after the return inspection, less any agreed charges for damage, late return, missing fuel or fines, each shown to you before it is applied. See our refunds and cancellation policy for how settlements work.

7. One-way trips and return-ride matching

On supported routes (for example Manali ↔ Leh) you may pick up in one city and drop in the other. Where a vehicle already needs to travel back, we may match you with it and waive or reduce the repatriation ("truck") fee. One-way drops must be at a designated OpenRides point during operating hours; an off-route or late drop may attract recovery charges.

8. Pickup, handover and inspection

At handover we record the vehicle's condition, fuel level, accessories and odometer, usually with photographs. You should verify and agree to this record. The same inspection is repeated on return; differences may result in charges against your deposit. Helmets are provided — wearing one is mandatory and required by law.

9. Your responsibilities while riding

  • Obey all traffic laws, speed limits, permit and inner-line requirements, and ride sober.
  • Only you (and any additional rider named on the agreement) may operate the vehicle.
  • Do not overload the vehicle or use it for racing, stunting, off-road abuse, or any commercial carriage.
  • Keep the vehicle secured and locked when unattended; do not leave the keys or documents in the vehicle.
  • Pay any fines, tolls, challans or penalties incurred during your rental period.

10. Late return and delays

Return the vehicle by the agreed date, time and location. Late returns are charged additional rental at your daily rate, and may attract a further fee where the delay affects another rider's booking. Mountain weather can close roads — tell us as early as you can if you expect a delay, and we will work with you in good faith.

11. Damage, theft and breakdowns

Report any accident, damage, theft or breakdown to OpenRides immediately, and to the police where required. For breakdowns, call the support number on your booking before arranging any repair. You are responsible for damage caused by misuse, negligence, or riding in breach of these terms, up to the limits set out in your rental agreement and insurance cover.

12. Fuel, mileage and permits

Unless stated otherwise, vehicles are supplied with a set fuel level and should be returned at the same level, or the shortfall is charged. Some routes require permits (for example inner-line permits in Ladakh) which are your responsibility to obtain unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.

13. Cancellations and refunds

How much of your rental is refunded depends on how far ahead of pickup you cancel:

  • Cancel at least 10 days before pickup — 90% of the rental amount is refunded.
  • Cancel at least 5 days before pickup — 50% of the rental amount is refunded.
  • Less than 5 days before pickup, or a no-show — the rental amount is not refundable.

The security deposit is always returned in full when you cancel before pickup. Cancellations, no-shows and refunds are governed in full by our refunds and cancellation policy, which forms part of these terms.

14. Prohibited use

You may not sublet the vehicle, carry passengers or goods for hire, cross international borders, tamper with the odometer or any fitted device, or use the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Breach of this section may end your rental immediately and forfeit part or all of your deposit.

15. Liability and insurance

While the Company acts as the transaction manager and issues the booking tax invoices, the physical condition, vehicle fitness certificates and valid commercial third-party insurance remain the active responsibility of the local partner supplying the vehicle. The Company shall not be liable for any direct or indirect bodily injury, loss of life, or personal property damage resulting from structural vehicle failures during operation.

Vehicles carry the insurance required by law; the scope, excess and exclusions are set out in your rental agreement. To the extent permitted by law, the Company is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any booking is limited to the amount you paid for that booking. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

16. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or end your access to OpenRides, or a specific rental, if you breach these terms, create safety or legal risk, or provide false information.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version in force at the time of your booking applies to that booking. We will post the current version here with its effective date.

18. Governing law and disputes

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Subject to any right you have to approach consumer forums, any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located at Sonipat, Haryana.
